about

This compiles multiple short releases by VT under earlier names, sometimes with other people involved, during the California era, when J-R and EoS were both living in San Jose, writing and recording in the same room together like a couple of mad scientists, 1988 to 1994, off and on.

Tracks 1 through 4 were originally released as "Zones of High Pressure" by The Whethermen, released around the winter solstice 1988. Written and recorded in the moment, in the same room together, playing and writing and singing everything.

Tracks 5, 6, and 7 were previously unreleased, and are samples from the unfinished "Rainbow sessions" of the summer of 1990. There's a good handful or more of remaining unreleased tracks from this time. These were songs written separately, but arranged together in the same room together.

Tracks 8 and 9 and J-R's and Eos's tracks from the 4-track release "Prime Ordeal Soup" by Picassofish, a collaborative effort with Barry Prior and Bill Rayburn. The release featured one original song by each of us, collaboratively arranged and recorded.

Tracks 10 through 13 were originally released as "Stereotremes" by Platypus Rex. Two songs each by J-R and EoS, collaboratively arranged and recorded, putting the 'mad' into 'mad scientist' by this point.

Track 14 is a wonderful previously unreleased track which Jon-Ross wrote off the cuff one day and we just laid down all the tracks.

Tracks 15 and 16 were the final single from the California era, a double A-side, the collaboratively written "Esk'mos in the Desert," and a collaborative arrangement of J-R's "Re-Action."

We had always agreed that, whenever we finally closed up shop for whatever reason, there'd be an "expanded" version of this collection, entitled "Reproduction & Release," which would include all the tracks herein, plus all the remaining unreleased material. The target release for this compilation is Spring 2018.
